The Township of Muskoka Lakes Official Plan (2009) is the principle policy document, which the Municipality uses to express its goals and objectives for the community, identifies significant natural features and guides its physical development and redevelopment. It provides a general policy direction and a land use planning framework to guide the physical, social, economic and environmental management and growth of the Township. In addition to adhering to good planning principles, the Official Plan was prepared within the context of the Provincial Policy Statement and the District of Muskoka Official Plan.

Stages 4 & 5 – Draft & Final Official Plan

The Township began a review of its Official Plan in Summer 2019, holding a community vision session and an online survey that engaged 853 people. Participants were encouraged to identify key vision ingredients to be considered through the Official Plan review process to help shape draft policy directions. Over 100 people then attended a virtual workshop in September 2020 in order to gather feedback on draft Policy Directions developed by the project team, which complimented the 400 questionnaire responses the Township received during Stage 3.

The Township of Muskoka Lakes Official Plan Review is currently in Stage 4 of the project timeline, having a first draft of a new Official Plan prepared based on all of the public input received to date and Policy Directions. In this Stage, the Draft Official Plan is presented and reviewed by the Planning and Official Plan Working Committees, and together with Stage 5 includes multiple opportunities for public input. A number of drafts of the Official Plan will be produced and considered as part of Stages 4 and 5. A timeline with more details of the Official Plan Review process including opportunities for public input can be found below.
