Official Plan Review

A Special Planning Committee meeting will be held on Monday October 3 at 9:00 am for the purposes of reviewing the submissions received through the Public Meeting held on August 12, 2022 and to provide direction on a further draft of the Official Plan. The Agenda for the meeting is intended to be published by end of day Friday September 23.

Public Meeting: Friday, August 12^th, 2022 at 9:30 a.m.

The Public Meeting is to allow the public the opportunity to provide comments to Municipal Council on the proposed Township of Muskoka Lakes Official Plan. The Public Meeting will be held in both an in-person and virtual forum with electronic participation. The meeting will be held from the Council Chambers, Municipal Office, 1 Bailey Street, Port Carling, Ontario and will commence at 9:30 a.m. The zoom link for the meeting can be found below however, registration is strongly encouraged.

For those who wish to make in-person verbal representations to Council, please note that as part of the Township’s response to stop the spread of COVID-19 and occupancy limits of the facility, only one speaker will be permitted in the Council chambers at a time. Please note that the meeting will be made available for viewing at the adjacent Port Carling Community Centre while waiting for your turn to speak and afterwards.

Written comments on the Draft Official Plan will be received until August, 29, 2022.

The Township is pleased to announce that staff and the consulting team will be bringing a report and Draft 3 of the Official Plan to a series of Special Planning Committee meetings commencing on June 20, 2022 at 9 am. This updated draft is based on all of the feedback received from the community and agencies from last fall’s Open Houses and online survey. Planning Committee will give consideration to further revisions to the draft of the Official Plan as well as direction to circulate the draft prior to hosting a statutory Open House and Public Meeting later this summer, where more opportunities for public feedback will be available.

The report and draft Official Plan is now posted on the Engage Muskoka Lakes webpage as well as the Government Portal. Delegations at the meetings are being accepted in accordance with the Township’s Delegation policy.

Staff and the consulting team will be bringing a report to a Special Planning Committee meeting on March 22, 2022 at 9 am which will provide an overview of comments received from the community and agencies from last fall’s Open Houses and online survey. The report will also provide recommendations to Committee, based on the feedback received, on suggested revisions to the draft Official Plan. Upon receipt of direction from Planning Committee, a further draft of the Official Plan will be prepared and presented to Planning Committee at a future Planning Committee meeting, prior to consideration of hosting a statutory Open House and Public Meeting where more opportunities for public feedback will be available.

Please note that Special Planning Committee meetings are also tentatively scheduled for March 25, 2022 at 9 am should additional time be needed to review the forthcoming report. The report and recommendations will be posted on the Engage Muskoka Lakes webpage the week prior to the meetings. Delegations at the meetings are being accepted in accordance with the Township’s Delegation policy.

Special Planning Committee Agenda

The Township is pleased to formally release a draft Official Plan for public review and comment.

The draft Official Plan is based on a series of Policy Directions that were endorsed by Council on August 12, 2020 and then modified on October 28 and 30, 2020. A series of meetings were then held with the Official Plan Review Working Committee and/or Planning Advisory Committee on March 29th, April 1st, 6th, 16th and 26th, June 23rd and 24th, July 6th and September 1, 2021 to review iterations of the draft policy framework. The result of these many discussions is a draft Official Plan dated October 2021.

Join us on Saturday, September 26^th, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. to discuss the proposed policy directions as part of the Township of Muskoka Lakes Official Plan Review. Members of the project team from the Township and their consulting team will present the proposed policy directions and answer questions from participants. There will also be opportunities to provide feedback on the proposed policy directions.

This is a workshop-style session that includes a brief presentation followed by interactive small group discussions. The purpose of these discussions is to encourage constructive and collaborative dialogue between participants. As such we will not be accepting delegation requests for this session – questions, comments and feedback can be submitted before, during and after the session to info@lura.ca.
