Port Carling Arena Design Options to be Considered by Committee
What happened last?
In December 2025, Council directed staff to move forward with the design phase for the renovation of the Port Carling Arena.
The Township has since retained Barry Bryan Associates to complete the first phase of design work. As part of this work, five preliminary concepts have been developed to explore different approaches to renewing and enhancing the existing arena.
The concepts range from rehabilitation of the existing facility to options that include additional dressing rooms, improved lobby and washroom spaces, accessibility improvements, operational upgrades and new multi-purpose community space.
Preliminary construction estimates for the five concepts range from approximately $4 million to $12 million, depending on the scope of improvements and expansion.
What’s next?
On Wednesday, September 16, General/Finance Committee will consider the five preliminary concepts and provide direction on a preferred approach for further design.
Following the selection of a preferred concept, the project team will continue to develop the design and consult with the community and local stakeholder groups to gather feedback. A schematic design package and updated Class D construction cost estimate will then be brought back to Council for consideration at a future meeting.
Selecting a preferred concept at this stage does not authorize construction. Further Council consideration will be required before the project advances to the next phase.
