Council Approves Official Plan Amendment, Moves to District for Final Approval (July 2026)

Thank you for continuing to follow the Minett Redevelopment Project.

What happened last?

At its July 29, 2026 meeting, Township Council adopted recommendations from the July 17 Special Planning Committee meeting related to the proposed Minett Redevelopment Project and further approved minor amendments to the proposal.

The approvals include updates to the Official Plan that identify where development may occur within the floodplain, within and adjacent to an identified wetland, within the required shoreline setback and where portions of the required shoreline vegetative buffer may be reduced. The approved Zoning By-law includes a Holding (-H) provisions and incorporates the technical requirements identified through the planning review process.

What's next?

The Notice of Passing has now been issued by the Township of Muskoka Lakes, and the 20-day appeal period is underway in accordance with the Planning Act, closing August 27, 2026.

If no appeals are received before the appeal period closes, the Official Plan Amendment (OPA) will then move forward to the District Municipality of Muskoka for approval before the Township approved Zoning By-law Amendments could come into effect. If an appeal is received, the application will move forward through the applicable appeal process.

Before development can proceed, the project must fulfill the items included within the Holding (-H) provision, including but not limited to, municipal servicing agreements, environmental approvals, wetland compensation and enhancement measures, site plan approval, and other technical requirements.
